The Public Health Laboratory is our community’s first line of defense against public health threats like infectious diseases, toxins, and biohazards.
Local health professionals, clinics, hospitals, and even law enforcement rely on us to test and identify substances that could pose a serious risk to public health.
Full-service, state-of-the-art
Our state-of-the-art facility is a full-service microbiological lab that provides clinical and reference testing in the areas of bacteriology, virology, serology, parasitology, toxicology, and mycology by both molecular and conventional methods. To prevent the spread of foodborne and waterborne illnesses, we also offer food and water testing. In addition, we run the Nondiagnostic General Health Assessment (NGHA) Registration and Enforcement Program in the County of Santa Clara.

Education
We play a critical role in education and training and offer workshops, seminars, and presentations on a variety of topics. These include laboratory and biological safety, blood-borne pathogen regulations, and chemical hygiene.
